With an ever-growing number of galleries scattered around New York, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Where to begin? Here at A.i.A., we are always on the hunt for thought-provoking, clever and memorable shows that stand out in a crowded field. Below is a selection of current shows our team of editors can’t stop talking about.

Ole Martin Lund Bø at Denny Gallery, through May 12
This new Lower East Side gallery (it opened in early January) has another good show on view, this time of works by the young Norwegian artist Ole Martin Lund Bø. Lund Bø’s paintings, sculptures and photographs are materially tricky; you have to look twice to differentiate foil from paint, or metal from cardboard. A pair of oil-on-canvas paintings-mysteriously titled Distilled Self Portrait and Distilled Portrait of a Young Dancer Smoking-each present a bare, sandy-hued canvas with a multi-colored glob of paint on the lower right edge, as if Lund Bø scraped his palette knife clean and walked away.
